Hunter Valley Chocolate Company @ Twenty-3-Twenty

We had a lovely visit to Hunter Valley Chocolates. There was a great selection of chocolates and other treats, and it was a nice place to browse and pick up a few goodies.
I bought some black truffle hand-cooked potato chips, which were delicious, as well as a mug. Everything was nicely presented, and it was a pleasant experience overall. A great little stop when visiting the Hunter.

Quite a large shop full of delicious chocolate treats.
Hot chocolate with cinnamon was delicious and the carrot cake came with cream. 🍓 and coulis beside it.
A tad pricey but overall a great place to drop in and have a break

While visiting Peterson House for wine tasting we decided to stop by the Hunter Valley Chocolate Company which is just down the road. If you are already in the area it can pair well with a winery visit. The chocolates and ice creams were fresh and they offer a wide range of products you would not usually find in a standard chocolate shop or supermarket.

However, most items felt overpriced for what they are. It was also very crowded during the long weekend and the service fell short of what you would expect. The lady serving ice cream was not welcoming, rushed through everything, and came across as rude. I understand weekends can be busy but good customer service makes a big difference.

I would not recommend driving out of your way to visit. If you want to try local chocolates with different varieties it might be worth a quick stop, but keep in mind the price and the lack of customer service.

We visited Hunter Valley Chocolate Co on Sunday during our weekend getaway and purchased several items, including the Kids Chocolate Bag ($14.50). As it was a Sunday, a surcharge was also applied.

When we arrived home, our children opened the bag to share the chocolates and discovered that two chocolates listed on the front of the packaging were missing – the Milk Koala and the Milk Frog.

I was disappointed because, for the price paid (plus the Sunday surcharge), I expected the bag to contain exactly what was advertised. Hunter Valley Chocolate Co has been around for many years and had a great reputation, so I would expect greater care and quality control when packing these products.

The biggest disappointment was seeing how upset the kids were after we had driven 2.5 hours for a lovely weekend away, only to find that their treat wasn't complete.

I hope this was simply an oversight, but I encourage the business to ensure all pre-packed bags contain the chocolates advertised on the packaging. Customers should receive exactly what they have paid for.

We visited the Hunter Valley Chocolate Factory during our trip, and overall it was a good experience, though not exactly what we expected. The place is very popular, and you can see why—there is a huge variety of chocolates available, from classic flavours to unique options like fruit & nut chocolate, Dubai-style chocolate, hot chocolate powders, and many other chocolate treats. We ended up buying quite a few items and enjoyed browsing through the wide selection.

Unfortunately, we reached quite late, so the coffee, hot chocolate, and ice cream counter was already closed. Because of that, we couldn’t try their hot chocolate, coffee, or ice cream, which are highly talked about. So I can’t comment on those items specifically. We were only able to purchase the packaged chocolates they were selling, and the taste was good, but not extraordinary compared to the hype around the place.

One thing to note is that the chocolates are quite expensive. You definitely need a big budget if you plan to shop freely here, as it’s very easy to spend a lot of money. The atmosphere was nice, it was fun to visit, and it’s worth going at least once when you’re in Hunter Valley.

Overall, I would rate it 7/10—a popular stop with good variety, enjoyable once, but a bit overpriced for the taste.
