Five Star Cinemas - New Farm

First visit here, although have been planning to visit for years. Staff were ok but must have been busy with school holidays. Wanted a Margarita but unfortunately they didn’t have all the ingredients so switched to a Cosmopolitan which was delicious! Also ordered a pint of Heads Japanese lager on tap ✅ Foyer walls are adorned with old movie posters plus plenty of seating available with retro table & chairs sets & high bar tables with stools. Also interesting hand crank movie reels & a beautiful old cash register.

Been twice to movie rescreenings here. Always a nice experience and will be going along to more in the near future. The seats in the purple room are so comfortable. Staff, atmosphere and food is great

This place has a bit of old charm that you don’t see much anymore. My wife and I came in for a weekend screening and appreciated how relaxed it felt compared to the bigger chain cinemas. The ticket prices weren’t too steep either, which was nice. The snack bar has fewer options than you'd expect, but the choc tops hit the spot. The seats were fine, not super plush, but we were comfortable enough. I did notice the audio wasn’t as crisp as some newer venues—it felt a bit flat in places. Not a major dealbreaker, but worth mentioning. Staff were polite and the vibe was chilled. A decent option if you’re nearby, but probably not worth travelling across town for.

Watched Sinners just the other night and my partner surprised me with Golden Room tickets. The seats were nice and comfy but there were so many flies/ moths lingering near the back row. Honestly really annoying as we had to keep batting them away from our faces and they flew in front of the projector a few times too, really affected the whole experience. 🥹

Movie was great, cinema was all good. There were no problems with the actual watching experience. The food though, well you don't go there for the food. I could have been a 13th century mogul with the amount of salt and the chicken was rubbery and dry. I'd pay again just to see Gordon Ramsay trying it, for the cinematic experience.
